CompTIA A+

This globally-recognized certification evaluates whether or not the applicant can troubleshoot network and security issues in multiple operating systems.

It is the foundation certificate for individuals pursuing IT careers.

CompTIA recommends the applicant should take as many practice tests as possible before taking this exam.

Applicants should have also accumulated around 500 hours of hands on experience.

To pass this exam, applicants must score a 675 on a scale of 900 on the first 90 minute section and a 700 on the scale of 900 to pass the second 90-minute.

This exam contains two sections. Aspects covered in the first exam section include basic installation, preventative maintenance, networking, and security issues among diverse operating systems.

More advanced aspects covered in the second section include securing and setting up devices, configuring hardware and operating systems, and repairing networking problems, software, and hardware.

CompTIA Network+

This is another internationally-renowned tech certification specifically associated with managing, building, and protecting data networks. Those who are pursuing networking jobs should obtain this certificate, as many companies require Network + for their technicians.

Testing applicants should be familiar with the domains consisting of network concepts, installation, configuration, media and topology, security, and management. This exam places greater emphasis on application as opposed to theory. Network + exam content is updated every three years. Network + is highly recommended for those who have passed the CompTIA A+ exam due to shared concepts.

CompTIA Security+

This is the certificate of choice at many organizations and companies around the world, including the U.S Department of Defense. Like the other CompTIA certificates, it updates approximately every three years. The Security+ certification exam evaluates practical knowledge of system security, network infrastructures, cryptography assessments, and audits. Applicants must have a score of 750 on a scale of 900 to pass. This exam is updated every three years.

Applicants should be familiar with the domains as follows: network administration, compliance and operational security, threats and vulnerability, application, data, and host security, access control and identity management, and cryptography. It is recommended applicants pass the CompTIA A+ certificate and have 2 years of experience in security administration before taking this exam.
