CompTIA A+ Certification Practice Test Questions

The A+ Certification is widely regarded as the base standard in IT certifications because it covers a broad range of technologies and skills. It is held by over one million people worldwide. Most employers may not even consider hiring a candidate who does not hold any certifications. The certification is comprehensive and recommended for both beginners and veterans of the IT world. All CompTIA certifications are also vendor-neutral and industry-supported. Canon, Dell, HP, Intel, and the Department of Defense all use CompTIA A+ to find employees. The certification complies with ISO 17024 standards and is recognized around the globe.

As with all CompTIA certifications, there are no course prerequisites. Anyone over the age of 13 may take the exam. However, a minimum of six to twelve months of hands-on experience are recommended before the exam date. The current exam codes are CompTIA A+ 220-901 and CompTIA A+ 220-902. Note that both exams must be taken in order for you to receive your certification.

Exam 220-901 tests you on your knowledge of PC and mobile hardware and peripherals, network connectivity issues, and networking and troubleshooting hardware. Exam 220-902 tests knowledge of network security, cloud computing, operational procedures, and installing and configuring operating systems including iOS, Android, Apple OS X, Linus, and Windows. Both exams are 90 minutes and 90 questions long, containing multiple choice questions, multiple response questions, fill-in-the-blank questions, drag and drop questions, exhibit questions (containing an image or a video) and performance-based questions.

Performance-based questions build scenarios that require you to perform specific tasks. The exact number of PBQs has not been made public. In order for you to pass and receive your certification, you must obtain a score of 675 on exam 220-901 and a score of 700 on exam 220-902. Both exams are scored on a scale of 900. These tests are available in English, German, Japanese, and Spanish.

Please note that the old exams, 220-801 and 220-802 are retired as of June 2016. If you passed one of these exams and not the other, you must still pass both 900-series exams. Exams are retired on an average of every three years in order to keep up with ever-changing technologies.

It costs $199 per exam. This certification is valid for three years from the date of your exam, and then may be renewed. You may renew this certification either by retaking the A+ exams or joining CompTIA’s Continuing Education program and completing at least twenty Continuing Education Units (CEUs). These include any number of workshops and training programs, including programs on higher certifications.
