CompTIA Security+ Certification Practice Test Questions
The Security+ certification is an entry-level IT certification dealing specifically with security knowledge. There are no course prerequisites to take any CompTIA exam. However, it is recommended that applicants for the Security+ certification exam have at least two years of experience in IT administration with a focus on security. The leading companies that use the Security+ certification are Apple, Dell, HP, IBM, Intel, and the U.S. Department of Defense. The certification is a globally recognized credential. Certified Security+ professionals have jobs in over 147 countries.
Although this particular certification is classified as entry-level, it is also suggested that any applicants have a Network+ Certification. It is not explicitly advised to have an A+ certification as well, but the A+ certification is already advised prior to the Network+ certification, so it follows that the A+ certification would also benefit you before you take this exam. As with all CompTIA certifications, anyone at or above the age of thirteen is eligible to take the exam and receive the certification. The most common jobs that will benefit from a Security+ certification are security architect, security engineer, security consultant, security specialist, network administrator, and security or systems administrator.
The current exam code for the Security+ exam is SYO-401. This edition of the exam was implemented in May of 2014, and therefore is most likely to retire in early 2017. The exam tests you on your knowledge of network security, compliance and operation security, application, data and host security, threats and vulnerabilities, access control, identity management, and cryptography. There is a maximum of ninety questions on this exam which may include multiple choice questions, multiple response questions, fill-in-the-blank questions, drag and drop questions, exhibit questions (containing an image or a video) and performance-based questions.
Performance-based questions build scenarios that require you to perform specific tasks. The exact number of performance-based questions has not been made public. You will have ninety minutes to take this exam. On a points scale of 100-900 points, the minimum passing score is 750. This exam is offered in English, Portuguese, and Japanese only.
The price is $311. This certification is valid for three years from the date of your exam, and then may be renewed either by retaking the Security+ exam or joining CompTIA’s Continuing Education program and completing at least fifty Continuing Education Units (CEUs). These include any number of workshops and training programs, including programs on higher certifications.
