Cat 6 Cable
Category 6 cables which is more commonly known as the Cat 6 and it is the standard cable used for Ethernet and other network protocols. It is from the family of the twisted pair cables and is made on the standards of the Electronic Industries Association (EIA) and the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA). Some of its predecessors are the Cat 3, Cat 5 and the Cat 5e cables which are still being used but not to a very large extent.
Cat 6 is very much like its predecessor mentioned above i.e. the Cat 5 and has four pairs of copper wire cables in it. But unlike Cat 5, the Cat 6 utilizes its entire four pairs of wires to the maximum extent. As the Cat 6 compatible with fast Ethernet speeds and it supports the Gigabit Ethernet and its rate of carrying data is 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) and has the capacity to carry the communications data more that the double speed of the Cat 5e or any of the other popular cables for gigabit Ethernet cabling prevailing in the market.
The heavier insulation of the Cat-6 cables sometimes makes it too thick and it is difficult to attach it to an 8P8C connectors thus they are not completely not standard if seen technically.
As we all know that technology is changing very rapidly due to the increase in new inventions and discoveries things are being replaced by newer and better products. Same is the case with the Cat 6 cable which is now replaced by the Cat 6a which is an advance version and is able to support up to 10 gigabit per second speed.
CAT6 cables like all the other twisted pair cables types are limited to a maximum cable run recommended length of 100m
