CBR
Abbreviations can be very misleading sometimes, as a single abbreviation can refer to many meanings with respect to different perspectives, for example the term CBR is an acronym for two different things even in the networking world but this article will however deal with only one meaning of the term, with reference to the ATM technology. With reference to that technology CBR is an acronym for constant bit rate or Class A quality service.
CBR is used in many places where the amount of the bandwidth that is to be allocated is limited and the data have to be sent in a constant stream, without any interruptions. The most common example of this is when you do online streaming to listen to some song or watch a video or two. However, it should be remembered only those sites would be using the CBR technology who have the limited channel capacity, otherwise there is no need to make use of the CBR. The mechanism on which the CBR works is that at the time of operation CBR completely allocate the bandwidth available to bring about the work, so it is not an ideal choice for storage at all as it would never allocate enough data for the complex sections while wasting the data on the simple sections.
If one wants to use the CBR to allocate the enough data for the complex sections so that it can also perform the function of storage, then in that case choosing a higher bit rate will solve the problem. The higher bit rate would be the solution as the higher bit rates ensures that there will be enough bits for the entire encoding process, however, because of this the size of the file that is being transferred will be larger in the end of the transmission process.
