CDP
The term CDP means a lot of different things in the world. Each perspective attaches a new meaning to this term; however, this article will only deal with this term with respect to the networking and computing world. Even in the networking world the term CDP has to different meaning attached to it and this article will mention both of the meaning attached to this term.
The first meaning attached to this term is the Cisco Discovery Protocol, which is used to obtain the information and address of the neighboring devices to a particular router or device, and along with that it is used to discover the platform of these different devices. This protocol has been made by the Cisco Systems themselves for the different networking devices which are used in the formation of the connection and providing the shortest path for the flow of the data, to speed up the data rate of the network. Apart from that is can also be used for the on demand routing, which is used to find out a way for the flow of the data.
The second meaning attached to this term is continuous data protection, which is also commonly known by the name of continuous backup or real time backup. This term basically refers to the automatic back up of the computer data when the change is made to the data or any application by the user, thus allowing the user to restore the data if there is any need for it. The most common example of this concept is the restore or recovery points that are made in the computer by the windows itself. One thing should be noted that the data which is saved is stored in a different location to protect it from any harmful agent, like virus, spyware etc.
