CIDR

CIDR is the abbreviation of “Classless Inter-Domain Routing. Actually CIDR is the scheme that is used for IP Addressing while replacing the old technieque/system that was based on A,B and C classes.

Only a single IP address can also be used with CIDR to built multiple unique IP addresses. The CIDR IP addresses seems similar to a usual IP address. Only it varies in the end i.e. a slash prior to number called the IP network prefix. For instance, 172.200.2.2/16.

The detail such as how many unique addresses were covered by the CIDR address, are known through the IP network prefix.

The CIDR addresses minimize the sizes of routing table as well as ensure availability of much more IP addresses within the enterprise.
