Content Vectoring Protocol

Content Vectoring Protocol is also known by the name of CVP in the networking world. It is basically a protocol that is used to filter the data that is crossing a firewall in to an external scanning device. This protocol was first established by Check Point Software in the year 1996. Since then this concept had been widely used in the making of different protection and security software and devices. The most common example where this CVP is found is in the anti-virus servers, as this protocol was released as a protocol specification for the integration with these different anti-viruses.

When talking about the firewall, then the company Check Point Software first made use of the CVP or content vectoring protocol in its firewall – 1, version 3.0. After the success of this experiment, the CVP was converted to the API specification by the Check Point Software. This protocol is basically used to inspect the http or internet content, that enters the computer.

The CVP API today defines a interface for the server applications which is used to validate the contents of the file. This protocol helps extensively in pointing out and detecting the different viruses that may be present in the data and along with that, it also detects the other harmful applets as they pass through the firewall. The CVP had been designed in such a way that it defines a client/server relationship that enables different firewall systems to share a common content validation server. Once this is done and one validation server has been made, then after that it would take all the files coming from the different firewalls, which needs to be scanned to ensure that there is no virus or any other harmful thing in the data which would later on harm the computer and the data present in there.
