DDR

The term DDR has several meaning attached to it, this article will however, deal with this term with respect to the networking and computing world. The term with respect to the networking and computing world has two different meanings attached to it, which are explained in the following material.

The first meaning is the DDR – SDRAM. This term is used in the computing world and it stands for double data rate synchronous dynamic random access memory. It is basically a class of memory integrated circuits that are used in the computers. The first module that was released was DDR1-SDRAM, then came the DDR2-SDRAM and now currently, DDR3-SDRAM is being used extensively in the world, as it offers greater speed at which the data can be processed and each of these modules are specific, that is, a DDR1 – SDRAM module cannot work in the slot designed for DDR2-SDRAM and vice versa.

The second meaning attached to the term DDR with respect to the networking world is Dial On Demand Routing. This routing technique was developed by the Cisco Systems, which allows a user to use the existing telephone lines or public circuit switched network to from a Wide area network or WAN instead of requiring the lines that are specifically used to for the formation of the wide area network or WAN. This DDR protocol is most commonly used by the companies and users who do not need a permanent network for the WAN in the complex as the data is sent at specific period and along with that the amount of the data sent is also is less. When using the DDR protocol, the connection only becomes active when the data is sent or shared between two nodes, as soon as the job is done the connection again becomes inactive or passive, that is, the link is disconnected.
