Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol

EIGRP (Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol is the next form of the IGRP which is a very popular technique to address the requirements of the large-scale web servers. It also conform to the changes taken place in network technologies which are emerging after implementation of IGRP. The EGRP can also be used at the routers which are using IGRP as the metrics for both of the protocols can be translated. Actually these are comparable easily whether these were routes originating in their own autonomous arrangements.

The routers running on EIGRP store the copy of all of its neighboring routing tables in order to promptly adapt to substitute routes. In case there exist no proper routing, EIGRP initiate query to its neighboring to explore the substitute routing. Such queries works till the alternate is located. It would transmit the complete table to its neighboring routers soonest one routing table entry is modified. So EIGRP would notify the neighboring about the particular changes in the table.

EIGRP make use of the Dual (diffusing-Update Algorithm) that has been originally developed at SRI Intl.
