Fiber Optic Cables
Fiber optic cables are expensive cables that are made up of thin strands of glass fibres, all of which is encased in insulated casing. Excellent for long distance usage, these are capable of allowing high speeds and very high bandwidth for networking.
They operate through communication signals which are transmitted in the form of pulses of light. Their reliability and benefits seem to outweigh their high cost and they are fast becoming the popular in place of normal cabling. They are also less vulnerable to electrical interference.
High speed internet is now being brought to residences through the means of FTTH (fiber to the home) which can carry up to 100mbps of bandwidth
