Global Area Network

Before moving on to the Global Area Network, let’s first see that what is a network and how many different types of networks are present here in this world. A network is a group of two or more computers that are joined together through certain means to allow the sharing of certain things. The best example where one can fine a network is a office or a company where many computers are connected to each other and a core computer so that they can instantly access any information they want to see.

There are various different kinds of networks present in the world, all of which are useful in some certain place. These various types of networks are LAN or local area network, WAN or wide area network, CAN or Campus area network, MAN or metropolitan area network, HAN or home area network and GAN or Global area network. Apart from these known types, three other factors also help in deciding the type of the network installed or present in a place. These three factors are topology, protocol and architecture. This article will however deal with the global area network or more commonly known as GAN only.

A global area network is a network which is made up of different interconnected computer networks, like LAN, WAN, or some other network types, all of which are working together to bring about a function and along with that it is a network which covers an unlimited amount of geographical area. The best example where this network is used is in the process of mobile communication. In mobile communication a person is always on a move still he manages to get signals on his mobile, this is all because of the GAN, which helps in supporting the mobile communications across a number of wireless LANs, Satellite coverage areas and many other networks.
