IGMP

IGMP is the short form of the complete term i.e. Internet Group Management Protocol. In RFC 1112 it is defined as the standard for the IP multicasting.

IGMP is applied to form the host memberships in the specific multicast groupings on the stand alone networks. In this technique, the protocol mechanism enables a host to communicate with the local router while making use of Host Membership Report. It denotes that it intending to receive the message addressed to a particular multicast group.
