Ipsec

Ipsec is the short of IP security which is a set of protocols designed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) in order to support the securely exchange of the data packets at the IP layers. The Ipsec is supporting the main encryption modes, the Transport and Tunnel. The transport mode is used to encrypting the data portion of the packets, however leaving the headers intact. The tunnel mode is considered the much secured, it encrypts both the header as well as the payload. In this technique, an IPSec-compliant device on the receiving side, decrypts the packets.

The sending and receiving devices must be sharing a public key to communicate via IPSec. This can be well performed while making use of a protocol namely, ISAKMP/Oakley (Internet Security Association and Key Management Protocol/Oakley).
