iSCSI
ISCSI is the short of complete term i.e. Internet SCSI which is the IP-based standard used for linking data storage devices via the networking as well as transferring the data while carrying SCSI commands from IP setups. At the physical layer, the iSCI supports the Gigabit Ethernet Interface that enables the systems supporting iSCSI interfaces to develop a direct link to standard Gigabit Ethernet switch and the IP routers. In this mechanism, whenever the operating system receives a request it initiates the SCSI command and later on sends an IP packet via the Ethernet connection. The SCSI requests are segregated from the request at the receiving side and the SCSI commands and data is relayed to to SCSI controller and subsequently to the SCSI storage device. ISCSI will be returning a response to the request via th same protocol.
ISCSI is very vital to SAN technique as it allows a SAN to be developed in a LAN or MAN. Originally the iSCSI was generated by the IETF and soon it was evolved as an official and proven standard.
