ISDN

c ISDN cards basically are like modems but in speed they are 5 times faster. But they require special type of telephone lines which are a little more costly than the normal telephone lines.

Before the advent of the ISDN technology the phone system was only used for the transportation of voice and had some different services available for the data. Unlike the previous technology the ISDN provides the service of transporting voice and data on the same lines. There many different kinds of access interface to ISDN including:

•    Basic Rate Interface (BRI)
•    Primary Rate Interface (PRI)
•    Broadband ISDN

ISDN like mentioned above is a circuit-switched telephone network system which is designed for the digital transmission of data and voice using the typical copper telephone wire and provides a much better voice quality then the usual analog phone. But the biggest and most probably the most popular market of ISDN is the internet access in many countries because it provides a very decent speed.

As the world is progressing and saving time has became a necessity of life, thus the efficiency and speed of the ISDN is very much profitable for organizations working on both the large and small scale. An ISDN connection usually can provide you with a 64Kbps to 128Kbps data links that is sufficient enough for the requirements of a small scale Local Area Network (LAN). ISDN is also very efficient mean of videoconference; it is capable of providing a user with voice, video as well as text transmission between different individual desktop videoconferencing systems or on the group videoconferencing systems.
