LDAP

LDAP is the shot of complete term i.e. Lightweight Directory Access Protocol. It is the set of the protocols used to access information directories, especially over the World Wide Web. LDAP is depending on the standards laid down within the X.500. LDAP also supports the TCP/IP that is vital for any kind of Internet access. As it is very simple version of X.500, sometimes the LDAP is also known as X.500-lite.

Though it is not widely used as yet, LDAP should make it happen for about an application running on virtually any computer network to derive directory information, like public keys and email addresses.  As LDAP is the open protocol, the applications are not to be worried about the types of the server hosting the directory(s).
