MBPS

MBPS stands for Mega bits per second and does not mean megabyte per second. Mbps basically means millions of bits per second and it is the flow of information over a given period of time, this is also known as Bandwidth in technical language. Simply we can say that the computer network connection is measured in bits per second. So Mbps is not the only data transfer speed there are others like Kbps (Kilo bits per second) or Gbps (Giga bit per second) and the bandwidth is measured in the Kbps or Mbps range depending upon the transmission method and medium.

The mega bit actually has two different values depending on the term being used. If it is being used as data storage the value of (mb) is equal to 1,048,576 bits and if used as a data transfer rate or bandwidth one (mb) equals to 1,000,000 bits. Moreover there is also a conflict between mega bit (mb) and mega byte (MB). A byte (B) basically consists of 8 bits, so if a (MB) is used in the explanation of bandwidth then one MB is 1000000 bytes or 8000000 bits so this means 1 MBps is equal to 8 mbps.

Although bit is a binary number system unit but in the field of communications a bit is defined as discrete signal pulses and are counted in the decimal signal pulses. For example, 4 Mega bits per second (Mbps) is 4000000 bits per second because in the computer structural design and memory address limitation, bytes are always exponent of two.

Some of the old modems which very much outdated now, supported data rates in Kbps but now the conventional Ethernet supports data rates up to 10 Mbps while the faster versions Ethernet can provide as much as 100 Mbps and Giga bit Ethernet  can support 1000 Mbps which is also equal to 1 Gbps
