Network

A network can be found today in this world in many places, like in the office, company, media offices, hospitals, homes and even in the city etc. This article however will explain the term network with reference to the computer world. A network is a group of two or more computers that are joined together, through a LAN cable or wireless network, to allow sharing of certain things, like files, documents, music, pictures, software etc. Like in an office many computer are connected together as they need to share certain files and document with one another. There are various different types of computer networks that are or can be deployed.

The first one is named LAN or Local Area Network; in this network the computers are present close together to each other, like in the same building or level. Then there is a wide area network or WAN, in which the computers are further apart from one another and are connected via wireless or telephone lines. The third type of network is the campus area network in which the computers are present in the limited amount of the geographic area, such as the campus or some large company. The fourth type of the network is metropolitan area network, which a data network which is specifically designed by the experts for a town or a city.

The fifth type of the network is the home area network which is present within a home of a user and all the computer or laptops present in that home can be connected to this network, however, a person living in the next home will not be able to connect to this network.
Along with these named and known types, three other factors also play a role in determining the type of the network. They are topology, protocol and architecture.
