Protocol Stack

Anyone belonging to the networking world knows that what is the protocol, that is, it is a agreed format by major networking companies which is used for transporting or sharing data in the network between the computers and the other networking devices present in the network. in the same way a protocol stack is nothing new, it is also used to transport and route the data packets between the computers and the networking devices present in the network, however, the difference between a protocol and the protocol stack is that, a protocol stack is an implementation of computer networking protocol suite. Simply stated it is the set of network protocol layers that work together, hence, one can say protocol stack is a group of different protocols, which are present together and are working together to bring about a function.

These were all the general or conceptual definitions of the term protocol stack, however, strictly speaking in this concept, the suite is the definition of the protocol and the stack is the software implementation of this suite or set of protocols that are present in layers. When it comes to the individual protocol then a person has to use a huge number of protocols to bring about a function, however, with this protocol stack, one just has to implement it and his work would be done.

This stack is made following some order, that is, the protocols present at the lower layer, or low level deal with the low level physical interaction of the hardware, however, as we move up in the stack, the protocols become more complex and they get loaded with more features, and the user applications usually deal with only the topmost layer of the protocol stack. This stack at the time of implementation is divided in three major sections, namely, media, transport and applications.
