Router

Router is a specific hardware device which transmits the data packets along the networks. The routers are connected to at least two networks. These networks can either be two WANs or LANs or a LAN and an ISP’s network. The routers are located at gateways where the networking platforms are connected.

These routers make use of the headers and forwarding tables to identify the ideal and best suited path for transmitting the data packets while using the protocols like ICMP to communicate with each other to set up the best path between two hosts.

Through these routes we can perform a low level filtering of data.
