SAP

Abbreviations can be very misleading sometimes, and same is the case with this term. The term SAP is quite a versatile word and it can be used to name different things depending upon the perspective it is used in, moreover, even if this term is used in one single perspective, it can be used to name a variety of things. This article will deal with this term with respect to the networking world. However, even in the networking world the term has four different meaning attached to it and this article will introduce each one of them briefly.

Firstly, in this world the term stands for Session Announcement Protocol. This protocol is used in the network to communicate the relevant session information to the prospective participants during the multicast sessions. Thus, this protocol plays an important role in updating the users and the networking devices, when the multicast session is about to happen or happening. This technology to spread the information to the destined users makes use of the RTP or real time protocol.

Secondly the term SAP is an acronym for Service Advertising Protocol. This technology was developed by the NetWare and this technology is used in their networks to authenticate or recognize the services and the addresses of the servers that are connected or connecting to the network. This technology, hence acts as a security check too for the network moreover the responses that this protocol get from the servers are used to update a table, named Server Information Table, present in a router.

Thirdly, the term is short for Secondary Audio Program, which is an NTSC audio channel, and is specifically used for the purpose of the auxiliary transmission. Fourthly the term is an acronym for SAP America Inc, Lester PA. It is the name of the US branch of the German software company. The name SAP here stands for System, Applications and Products. This software house specifically deals with the applications, software and products that help in the data processing process in different organizations, throughout the world.
