Server
The term server in a computing and the networking world refer to a computer or a device that manages the network resources so that the users who are connecting to this network can access any information or resource that they want to. In the world there are several different types of servers present and you would have heard about some. Some of the examples of the servers are the file server, print server, mail server and database server. A file server is basically a computer or a storage device that is dedicated to the storage of the different files that are added or saved on the network, so that the other people can also access them and any user who has an access to that network can store his work or files on the server.
Then there is a print server, which is also a computer that manages one or more printers that are working simultaneously. The best example where one can find such server is a campus, office and a company, where a person gives a command of a print from his computer, but which has to be processed by the server computer before it can be executed. Then there is network server which is a computer that has the responsibility of managing the traffic in a network to prevent congestion or blockage and to ensure that the desired traffic reaches its proper destination. The role of the database server is to process the database queries that arise.
In the real world the servers are often dedicated to a certain cause, that is, they are not free to perform any other task, to ensure that the work is being performed efficiently. There is no hard and fast rule to limit the computer to perform just one task. It can execute several programs and become a server for several purposes too. It all depends upon the administrator that how does he want to set his server for the network
