TLS

TLS is short for complete term “Transport Layer Security”. It is a protocol which ensures privacy and data integrity between client/server operations while communicating through Internet.
This Protocol comprises of two layers.
The TLS Record Protocol:
TLS Record Protocols is layered on top of a sustainable transport protocol like the TCP. It ensures privacy of the connection while applying symmetric data encryption technique. It also ensures the reliability of the connection.

The TLS Record Protocol is also being used for encapsulation of upper level protocols, for example, the TLS Handshake Protocol.

What is TLS Handshake Protocol?
The TLS Handshake Protocol enables authentication between the client and server and the negotiation of the encryption algorithm and cryptographic keys prior to the application protocol relays or gets any data.
TLS is application protocol-independent.
The Upper-Level Protocols can be layered on top of TLS protocol.
While based on Netscape’s SSL 3.0, The TLS has been superseded as an extension of SSL. The TLS and SSL cannot be considered as interoperable.
