What Is Call Agent

It is a term that is used in the communication of phone line. They can be old copper wired phones or the latest phones that use internet as their source. It is responsible for all the processes that are related for making a call and delivering it to the destination. Call agent is termed as a passage which is called Media Gateway Controller (MGC).  This gateway or passage is the main handler for the calls that come in or go out from a certain system. It is more a type of protocol that has been designed to perform a lot of tasks and it is also very efficient as it can take care of many issues by itself. The work of call agent is to keep record of the devices that are connected to the end lines of a specific connection.

The moment you pick up the phone and the tones starts the call agent becomes active and finds the address of the line that is being used. After this if any number is dialed from the dial then call agent uses it and evaluates it if it is valid or not. If the input digit is valid then it is preceded with the next input otherwise the input is rejected and a special tone is signaled so that the user become aware of the invalid input. After the completion of valid input a special tone is made which tells that the number that is dialed is under process of connecting with it. If the dialed number is free then they are connected to each other. Else a specific tone is generated that signals the unavailability of the dialed number.
This whole process is carried by call agent and after the connection is established then call manager is responsible for keeping the connection maintain and clear for rest of the time.
