What Is Media gateway controller

Internet is also a modern source of communication in terms of voice communication. Now it is also being used as a telephone line to communicate like a simple telephone does. This is not very simple as it looks. There are many different types of systems that are to be set together for VoIP.

Many different hardware and software components work together so that the system can work properly. Media Gateway Controller is one of those components that is important in the establishment of VoIP. It is not used in every VoIP system as it has been replaced b other modern systems; still it has its own importance.
Media gateway controller is also called MGC it acts like doorway which allows or gives the path to every communication line that is going in or coming out of that system. It also organizes the connections as it responsible for making the connection between the lines.

When a certain number is dialled within the system that is VoIP media gate way controller gets activated and then it analyze the numbers that have been dialled for the call. If those are the correct numbers that MGC tries to link up to the dialled number in the system or if the dialled number is not in the system then MGC requests the outside system to establish the link in both the lines. If both the lines are connected than it keeps the link established till the end of the call otherwise if the connection in unable to be established than the dialling unit is requested to try again.
Also is any call is to be connected in a system from outside the system MGC is responsible to connect it to the correct line for the communication and if there is some problem in that also tell the other system about that.
