What Is Media Gateway

Internet communication travels on different types of networks carrying information. Every network has its own way of transferring information so when different networks come together then there is need of system that can manage the data flow between the networks.  Media gateway is the solution for the inter network communication. It is a hardware component with such a software program that makes it possible to change one type of signals into another type. If VoIP system of communication is used then analog signals are converted to digital signals so that they can be transferred on the internet as internet communication can only process the digital data. So it is necessary to have a system that can be used to do the transition.

In this same way digital signals are changed back to the analog signal if the network at the other end is of analog type. Information about a certain data is also encoded in the data packet that is being transferred is also decoded by media gateway and directs it to its destination. Media gateway is capable of handling many different types of data handling techniques on different networks. So if a system has a media gateway then there will be no more need of any other device for signal decoding and encoding. Media gateway has many other uses in other communication fields like it is used for the connection of calls in a system by using the information attached by them.

It is being enhanced by introducing better type algorithms that can transfer the information easily and quickly for better communication establishment. Its involvement is so important that without it modern communication cannot take place correctly. Many different types of media gateways have been developed according to the requirements of different types of networks which may be differentiated on there size and working.
