When communication is taking place with the help of internet and the complete system of communication is not dependent on internet then sometimes problems occur in the communication between different types of networks that are operating information with the help of different system. Internet has become a new source of communication that includes both the voice and video communication but still this fast system has to be linked to the old system for communication sometimes due to the technology gap.

Megaco can be defined as an international standard that is used to create a link between internet communication and the traditional phone systems that work on totally different principles or technology. Without the help of Megaco it is not possible to establish a link between these two types of networks. It has been design to work very flexibly with traditional phone communication system and the latest internet communication system in a way that it allows the digital signals to be transmitted on non internet media by converting them in a non digital form. This makes it easy to send and receive data from any type of networks any time you want. Megaco is responsible for the processing of the data type so that it can be sent to any type of network. It works as a central component between the two other important components media gateway and media gateway controller that are also responsible for the same activity of changing the form of data that can be sent to any type of communication network.

Megaco standard or protocol has been also recognized by the international organization of telecommunication and since then it is has been marked as a necessary part of the internet communication. It is being improved so that it can be designed more efficiently to work better in the multi network environments.
