What Is P2MP

VoIP is the system that uses internet to make phone calls as the fixed line phones are used to make. The difference is that in VoIP all the communication is done on internet and the data is in the form of digital signals and if the traditional phone system is being then the data is transferred in a non digital form. VoIP is getting very active in use now days as it is very cheap and also it has many other facilities that are not present in the old phone lines. VoIP is being used at all levels of society from home use to large organizational level. In a single organization there can be hundreds of phone lines that are connected to each other by different paths and links similarly if this system is used everywhere then the complete internet system is connected with each other and they can be connected with each other in many different ways.

P2MP or point to multipoint is a similar type of term which means that the communication path between two distinct can be established in many different ways for example if a call is to be connect inside a system that is using the VoIP protocol then there is a definite chance that these two can be connected in more than one way. Now this is to be selected by the network administrator to choose the best path for that link by selecting the best path it means to look for the shortest path in the network that is also free to carry the data and keep the link free until the communication is completed. It also means that single data or transmission can be transferred to many different points at a single time and then it can also receive data from those multiple end points together.
