VoIP is the term that is used to introduce the phenomena of making voice communication using internet as a source. This voice communication can be in the form of voice calls from phone or can be pc to pc calls.  Different devices are used to make this conversation as there is a difference of sending technique between different types of networks. Session border controller is the mechanism that can be used to establish a network where internet can be used for voice contact. This device is capable of handling many different network activities. Like the call handling and the distribution or the connection of calls inside the network or outside the network.

VoIP are being used in numerous organizations where there are hundreds of phone lines attached to each other and a sort of private exchange is operational there to handle all the communication. So session border controller is engaged in the communication activities of that private branch exchange. If some outside call wants to get connected to an inside line the session border controller will send the incoming signal to the system to and will decode the information about where is this call needed to be connected. After the connection of this call a signal is sent to both ends about this established connection so there is no interference in this established connection.

This protocol has been updated a lot and now it can be used for many other types of data transmission like video transmission. This device also acts as a barrier that protects a network from any outside threat because every incoming voice signal is checked for its source and the type of information that is coming in. If there is some kind of threat or unusual data then it is not allowed to come into the system.
