What Is Soft switch

Internet is becoming a major source of communication including the voice communication. But voice communication on internet is very different in its processing. The traditional lines for phone communication use a different type of technique to transmit and receive data that may be voice or of voice signals on fax signals as this is used for these purposes and also in old days to connect to the internet. Now internet has become very advanced and it has become very fast and has become an independent way of communication and it has a different way of processing the data that can flow on the related internet networks.

Both of these networks have entirely dissimilar way of data transmission and they cannot be connected with each other to make direct data exchange and this is not possible that these two main networks of information transfer do not meet each other at any point in the data exchange. This problem has been solved by a device called soft switch. This device has been designed to process every type of data that is flowing on these two different types of networks. This is used to establish the link of transmission between internet and telephone line for data exchange.

Internet network can support all types of data like audio, video, text or different combinations of these types of data as a single file. So whenever some data has to be transmitted from an internet network then soft switch is responsible to encode this data in a way so that it can be transmitted on a simple telephone line and also on the internet network because when a data is transferred from a source to destination then different types of networks come in the path and they all need to be told about the incoming data.
