What is Wide Area Network

WAN is a wide area network, as such it is spread over a very large area such as a city, country or even a continent and overseas, the internet is a WAN which is spread worldwide. The WAN is actually a number of wide spread LANs connected thorough a router. In an IP network a router will hold both a LAN and WAN address. WAN is generally too large for a single person to own and in contrast to LANs they tend to use ATM, Frame Relay and X.25  for connection.
