What is Wireless Networking

As the name suggests wireless networking is…wireless! As opposed to wired networking which uses Ethernet cables to transfer data, wireless networking relies on radio waves and/or microwaves.

Wireless networking has many advantages over wired networking. The foremost being the mobility that is afforded by wireless networks. In addition, messy wiring and the ungainly sight of a mesh of confused jumble of wires is eliminated. However it is disadvantaged as wireless networking is vulnerable to radio interference and obstacles to a clear signal, such as walls, bad weather or other such barriers.

Wireless networks are becoming better with advancements in technology and therefore are also becoming popular. With each new discovery, the cost of the devices seems to lower and hence it is becoming more and more affordable. Setting up a wireless network is not too difficult, all it requires is a wireless router and wireless adapters, but one has to be careful to purchase equipment that conforms to the widely used standard (802.11 Wi-Fi standards).
