Wi-Fi

Wireless networks are widely used all over the world today. In simpler words, it is impossible to imagine a word of today to work without this wireless network. The biggest advantage of this system is that people do not need to be connected via LAN cables or wired networks to go on to the internet. Once the wireless network is set up then one can access it from anywhere, as long as he is within the range of the Wi-Fi.

A wireless network basically makes use of radio waves, just like mobiles, radios and TV. The communication across the wireless network is a lot like a two-way radio communication. Two things happen in the communication that takes place in the network. Firstly the computer’s wireless adapter after translating the data in to radio signals send it with the help of an antenna, secondly the wireless router receives the sent signal and decode it, after which the information is sent to the internet using Ethernet connection.

The concept of the Wi-Fi technology was introduced in 1800s however, it was not till 1990s that the concept was really appreciated and used instead of the wired networks. The biggest reason for this delay in introduction and its application was that, during 1800s there was a lack of efficient devices that can be used with this wireless network. However, till 1990s a lot of work had been done in this field and since then, this technology had continued to spread like a fire.

Today devices are being used after they get the Wi-Fi certification. For this purpose the Wi-Fi alliance was made. It is a not for profit organization that certifies the interoperability of more than 4200 Wi-Fi devices. This alliance was formed in 1999, when this technology was booming. The major difference between this alliance committee and other committees are that it gives the seal of approval to the devices that plan in interoperability. Today when one goes to buy the devices for Wi-Fi networks then at the back there is a logo saying that it is Wi-Fi certified. This job is done by the Wi-Fi alliance.
