constructing a wireless home network
wireless networking allows you mobility, ease and freedom of use and also allows many users to do their work simultaneously. This article will show you how to set one up.
- Start by installing a wireless network card in all of your computers. Install the driver software and follow all the instructions the wizards guides you through. For laptops first install the drivers and then insert the wireless cards.
- Buy a wireless router and hook it up. Connect the router and modem to a power supply and turn them on. Then go to start and control panel. Select wireless network setup and click next. Choose network name and select "Manually assign a network key." Then press "Next," choose a Security Mode and enter the Network Key. Then follow the prompts to complete setup.
- Next you have to configure the router. Check the IP address in the outré manual and enter it in you web browser. You will end up on the configuration page, click the "Wireless" tab and enable "Wireless and SSID Broadcasts" . Go to the Wireless Security tab and choose a Security Mode through the drop-down menu (make sure this matches the mode you selected earlier). Enter Network Key and click apply. That is about it.
- Remember though, that the configuration must be done on all computers in the network.
