converting your printer to wireless
this article will help you to understand how you can make your printer wireless.
- Start by buying a wireless print server (make sure it is compatible with your wireless network and printer). Go through all the documentation of the print server, and read the manual carefully as it directs the installation of the printer.
- Use the USB cable to connect the printer to the wireless print server then attach the print server’s AC adapter and turn the unit on.
- Now connect your wireless print server and your computer using the Ethernet cable (this is a temporary step).
- Run the print servers CD and run the software. The software application will guide you through all the steps (including setting of IP address, access passwords, and configuration to your wireless network and will install drivers allowing print server to use printer and the printer drivers).
- Name your printer. Their setup is by default dynamic addressing, hence thw wireless router will provide an IP address for it. This method allows ease of installation but will mean that the IP changes over time. You may change setting to static addressing, which is more dependable as the IP stays the same and help computer to locate printer easily as well as to access the configuration page (for instance, a router has the IP address ;192.168.0.1, change it to 192.168.0.2 or 192.168.0.3, as long as new address is not already in use). Now you must set a password to access the configuration page.
- Next comes the configuration of the server to allow it access to wireless network. Make the SSID the same as for your router and change settings to same wireless channel (this includes enabling encryption and setting password for server, if the same has been done for the router). Follow all of the instructions in the servers software for the installation process. Then remove the Ethernet cable and try to connect through the wireless network.
- Install the printing drivers on each computer that will use the printer, and then enter the IP of the unit into address bar of a web browser to access configuration page, enter the user name and password.
