How To Set Up A Wi-Fi

wireless networks are getting faster everyday, especially with the new draft N which is super fast.

  • First of all if you do not have a modem with an inbuilt wireless router, then turn off your cable or DSL and connect it to your WAN, WLAN or internet port in the back of the wireless router, using the Ethernet cable. Next plug in the cable or DSL and connect to the internet. Connect your open port on the router to the computer’s Ethernet port. Access the configuration screen through the web browser, you will find the IP, user name and password in the router installation manual (the configuration screen will ask for an SSID which will be used to give other computers access to your network, choose some thing unique).
  • Protect your network from intrusion by choosing a WEP or WPA security code, the router might give you a few to choose from. If you have anything lower than the windows XP service pack 2, then download the service pack from their website.
  • Now reboot and you will find that your computer should detect the network. Right click on the wireless networks options and click on view available networks, a list of them should be displayed promptly.
  • Click on your network and enter the security key twice and click connect.
  • You can plug the wireless adapters to any computer and repeat the process following rebooting to gain connectivity for those computers.
