How To Setup A Home Network

to add multiple computers to your home network you need to add network connections. Its really not that difficult, this article will guide you through how you can set up a home network.

  • You need to have a high speed internet connection. Other than that you will require networking supplies (it is advisable to find items in combo packs as that ensures compatibility), try to find a router and a wireless card that supports 802.11g as most other devices also support the same specifications.
  • Move your internet connection cable from the modem to the router by unplugging the modem( do not remove the jack), Plug it into the port labeled "Internet," "WAN" or "WLAN" on the router. Then plug in the cable modem and let it connect.
  • Then plug in the wireless router, if it lights up you have a connection. Using the instructions that come with it, configure the router. Make sure you save or apply your work side by side so that your settings are saved. Also take care to note your passwords and keys.
  • Insert your wireless card into an empty card slot and then run its CD, follow the prompts for installation.
  • Connect computers to your network. Right click on the wireless network icon and choose ‘view available wireless networks’, find the name of your network in the list that appears and enter user name and network key.
  • Try to be careful with the devices instructions, if you are thorough once you might not face any confusion or problems at all.
