Allow Users to Run Only Specified Programs in Windows 7

Restrictions the Windows programs that users have authorization to run on the computer. If you enable this setting, users can only run programs that you add to the List of Allowed Applications.

But if you have a mutual or public computer you may fancy allowing users to use only specific programs. At the moment I take a look at a set in Local Group Policy that allow you to set only specified programs to run.

Note that this process uses Local Group Policy Editor which is not accessible in Home versions of Windows 7.

An opening clicks on Start and enters gpedit.msc into the search box and hit Enter.
Find the way to User Configuration Administrative Templates System. Then under Setting scroll down and double click on Run simply particular Windows applications.

Set it to Enabled, then under the Options section click on the Show button next to List of allowed applications.

A Show Contents dialog comes up where you can type in the apps you want to allow users to run. When finished with the list, click OK then close out of Local Group Policy Editor.

If a user tries to right to use an application that is not on the specified list they will receive the error message.

At the moment if you will try to run any program except for Adobe Reader you will get the error message:

This is a lovely feature for limiting what programs users can or cannot access on the computer.
