Disable AutoPlay in Windows Vista

The newer versions of windows have enhanced features then the old ones. But some of the features are not that much helping. In Windows Vista the feature of auto play is of great help but sometimes it is also problem causing and confusing. Even you attach a flash it gives you the option of playing it.

To solve this problem accurately. Open Control Panel, and then click on “Play CDs or other media automatically” to access the auto play option.
There are multiple options to disable the auto play. It’s upon your choice what you want to do.

Disable AutoPlay Completely

Using this option you will disable every option and nothing will play when you will insert. For this purpose uncheck the option for “Use AutoPlay for all media and devices”

Disable for a single type

You can personalize the settings to single object that you do not want to play at time of insertion. This could be done by choosing the right settings from the drop down list.

Disable for just Removable (flash) Drives

This option will let you disable the auto play option for external drives like UBS’s. In order to disable AutoPlay for the removable drives, you will have to change all of the following to Take no action:  like software and games, Pictures, Video files, Audio files, and Mixed content.

Disable with Registry Hack

This can also be done easily with the help of registry. Download registry hack from the internet

Download and unzip this registry hack and then double-click on the appropriate file.
•    DisableAutoPlay.reg will disable autoplay entirely.
•    DisableAutoPlayRemovable.reg will disable autoplay on removable devices.
