Easily Set Default OS in a Windows 7 / Vista and XP Dual-boot Setup

Multi-boot or Multi-booting is the name given to the practice of installing multiple operating systems on a computer system. In this way you are able to choose which operating system you need to boot once you turn the power on a computer system. The term dual-booting is the name given to the practice of installing exactly two operating systems on one computer system.

Multi-booting is useful in many scenarios, such as those where several pieces of software require different operating systems and cannot be run on a single system. A multi-boot configuration will allow a user to use all of this software on one computer. Another reason for setting up a multi-boot system can be that one wants to investigate or test a new operating system without switching completely. The user can configure all applications needed and transfer data before making the final step and removing the old operating system.

It is very easy to know which default operating system you are using if you are running a dual-boot setup with more than one Windows operating system. If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7 as one of your operating systems then you will need to follow these instructions in order to set your default operating system. On the desktop you will need to right-click the Computer icon. From there you will select Properties. Once you have clicked there, a window will open where, on the top right side, you will need to click on the Advanced System Settings.

Now you have to click on the Settings option under Startup and Recovery. From there another window will open where you can easily select the default operating system you want. Do not forget to save your settings.
