IP stands for Internet Protocol Address which is your computer's identification and permits you to join and identify other computers with their IP addresses.

How to Change your TCP and IP Settings on Windows Vista

 

  • TCP stands for Transmission Control Protocol. It is also used in identifying and communicating with different computers over a network.

  • Click on start and go to the control panel

  • Click on Network and Internet and then select Network and Sharing Center.

  • Go to manage network connections.

  • Select which Internet connection you want to change. Right click on it and choose Properties.

  • Click on the Networking button. You can choose amongst Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) or Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6).

  • Select Obtain an IP Address Automatically to retune your IP address automatically, and then press OK.

  • Go to Use the following IP Address to enter your desired IP settings.

  • Insert your IP address into the fields IP Address, Subnet Mask or Subnet prefix length for IP/TCPv6) and Default gateway.

 

 How to Change your DNS Settings

 

  • DNS Server stands for "Domain Name System Server". It takes domain names and translates them into IP Addresses to connect them to a network

  • Select Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically and then press OK.

  • Go to Use the following DNS Server addresses to adjust your DNS Server settings yourself

  • Enter your primary DNS Server address in the field that says Preferred DNS Server.

  • Then Type in your secondary DNS Server address in the field that says Alternate DNS Server.

 

Add a New Network Protocol

 

  • Go to manage network connections and select Properties and then click on Install.

  • Select Client, Service or Protocol, according to what you want to add then press Add. Then you can choose the item you need from the dialogue box and click OK.
