Sure its appealing the first couple of times you use vista it looks pretty cool but at the end of the day most of us agree it's pretty much useless.
Right-click on the Vista sidebar.
Click on properties.
Next you need to uncheck the start sidebar in the checkbox in the window that appeared.
right click on the sidebar button
Scroll down and click on exit.
